Sheri L. Dew, is as close as she can get to being a Mormon GA without being Male. Due to the fact that she is indeed female, she will never be anything more than a puppet. She is everything that an LDS woman is not supposed to be, except for blindly obedient.

| Do LDS Women Really Buy Sheri Dew's Drivel??? Or Do They Think She Is A G.A. Stooge?? Wednesday, Jun 10, 2009, at 08:02 AM Original Author(s): Anonski22 Topic: SHERI L. DEW -Link To MC Article- | ↑ | I've always wondered about this.
It's a pretty predictable cycle.
Every 6-9 months or so, the bretheren seem to sense that the women are a little sick and tired of their "devine role", and having their identity and purpose in life dictated to, by men.
So what do they do? They trot out Sheri Dew at a women's conference, fireside, devotional..whatever.
Sheri then goes on a 50 minute diatribe about how great it is to have their identity and purpose dictated to them by men, their entire lives.
I find Sheri Dew's life to be sad.
I've met her a handful of times, and I'm convinced that she is a conflicted soul.
She talks and acts like a general authority, not like so many of the dough eyed, whispy voiced, meal mouthed female LDS speakers. I dont believe she is comfortable with herself, and I honestly suspect that she is a closeted lesbian.
Be that as it may, I wonder how women react to her. Do they buy her act, hook line and sinker? Or do they belive that she is anothing more then a pawn for the GA's?
| Does she really believe all this stuff?

She believes whatever she is told to believe.
Sheri Dew is a woman so unlike other women in the Church–unmarried, childless, in worldwide leadership positions, beholden to the GAs, former director of Deseret Book, etc.–that her view of the role of women in the Church is completely distorted, and would be irrelevant if the rest of the women understood their individual worth in the eyes of the Church. Sheri Dew and other women who gain opportunity or access through the Church are the exception, not the rule.
The foundation of the Relief Society as proof that women were valued? Please! That was all about making Emma feel important and valued while Joseph was cheating on her with his plural "wives", who also happened to be Emma's counselors in the Relief Society Presidency. It's a particularly cruel irony that as Emma tried to use the Relief Society to campaign against polygamy, the two women who had been installed by Joseph to work most closely with her were secretly sleeping with her husband. Joseph was vile.
Women participate in ordinances of a priesthood character in the temple? So what. The endowment was established to put women under oath to obey their husbands, and to participate in polygamy if asked to do so, and to lie about it publicly. The temple is nothing good or empowering for women or men.
The biggest issue of all, of course, is that the Church doesn't value people as anything more than fodder for the machine.
| In one of the most hate-ridden moments of the event, Sheri Dew, President of LDS-owned Deseret Book, likened those who do not oppose gay marriage to those who did nothing to oppose Hitler's rise to power. Ms. Dew, who is unmarried and has never raised children, also described a picture of a same-sex couple with infants which she saw in Newsweek magazine (see 1 March 2004, pp. 40-41). She said, in disgust, "I just can't stomach this-the thought of those girls being raised in that kind of a setting." Meridian Magazine later reported her remarks as being that she was "heartsick"-a more genteel version of her actual remarks. The offensive article was eventually removed from the Meridian Magazine site, but it is still available online.
Sheri Dew says she can't "stomach" this: Returned missionary Eric Ethington, left, with twin Sophia and partner Doug Okun with twin Elizabeth, are married at the San Francisco City Hall, February 13, 2004. (In an ironic twist, one of the grooms Dew was decrying turned out to be Eric Ethington, a fellow Mormon who served an LDS mission in Korea. Explaining why he and his partner decided to marry, Ethington said, "It wasn't about the politics, or the civil disobedience, or the social activism... It was about our love for each other and our love for our family.")
Sherri Dew shows the results of being raised as a humble Mormon woman, she can't even ask for what she wants: She has been asked to run for political office, but said she is so shy she "can't even ask for the full can of apple juice on the airplane" so she couldn't very well ask for votes.
Her surprise that a WOMAN should be asked to pray is pathetic and ingratiatingly self-effacing: Dew opened the 2004 Republican National Convention with a prayer after, she said, she had received a telephone request from "out of the blue and after she "had to ask myself if this would appear too partisan, and I decided it was never inappropriate to pray." She said she thought it "remarkable" that an LDS church member was invited for the honor, "and even more so a woman."
