F.A.Q. ABOUT THE MORMON CURTAIN WEBSITE
Q: What is the purpose of the Mormon Curtain?
A: The primary purpose of the Mormon Curtain is to blog the Ex-Mormon world. This includes "recovery" boards, message boards, sites and more - and provide the very best posts and articles therein. This is to aid Ex-Mormons who are on the road to recovery, Mormons who are looking for more information on their own religion, and Non-Mormons who may be studying the Mormon Church on purpose of possible baptism. The secondary purpose of the Mormon Curtain is to expose to the world that Mormonism is a cult of Christianity. It is hoped that the information and links contained here will help non-Mormons avoid the Cult of Mormonism. It is also hoped that current members of the LDS Church will find the answers that Mormon leaders have forbidden them from seeing. In addition, those recovering from Mormonism (known as Ex-Mormons) will find links and information necessary to aid in recovery.
Q: Is this a hate site?
A: No, this is not a hate site. No hate material can be found anywhere on this site. Mormons may call material found here as "hate-material" or "Anti-Mormon" but only because we expose the truth behind Mormonism. For instance, Missionaries may be talking to you about the Temple - what they won't tell you is that the Mormon Temple includes secret names, secret passwords, secret handshakes, strange clothing, signs, tokens and bizarre rituals. Mormons will not tell you that their God lives on a planet near a star called Kolob. There are many things that Mormons will not tell you - they consider them "sacred" - however, you should know these beforehand. Because we are exposing these things, Mormons consider this to be hate site or Anti-Mormon site.
Q: Is this an Anti-Mormon site?
A: No. The LDS Church teaches its members that anyone who leaves the LDS Church is an "Apostate". Anyone who criticizes the LDS Church is an "Anti-Mormon". This site is dedicated to Ex-Mormons - both those who have had their name(s) removed (e.g. "Resignation") or are in the process of having their name(s) removed. The LDS Church considers this site Anti-Mormon. Any site, book, person or manuscript that does not promote Mormonism is considered Anti-Mormon by the LDS Church.
Q: Were you ever a member of the LDS Church?
A: Yes, I was a member of the LDS Church for fifteen (15) years. I had my name removed from the records (Resignation) in July of 2001.
Q: How often do you update?
A: Monday through Friday.
Q: Where did you get your material for the Mormon Curtain?
A: The material for the Mormon Curtain is culled throughout the Ex-Mormon communities, news organizations, personal blogs and other areas of interest.
Q: Do you always give full credit for the postings?
A: Yes. All posts are given full credit. If a post is pulled from a personal blog - a link to the original post is given. Older articles (early 2005) may not have original author names attached and many articles may be posted as "Anonymous".
Q: Why are some articles marked "Anonymous"?
A: Many posts are of a sensitive nature, or, the author does not wish to have their name or alias associated with the article. It takes a great deal of courage to post personal information about yourself on the Internet - even if you are using an alias. When I pull an article and feel the author should really be protected, I substitute their name with "Anonymous". I do this entirely at my discretion as I often feel the article posted is important to share and archive - but to hide and protect the true anonymity of the poster. It is a sensitive and cautious decision on my part.
Q: Why don't you post links back to their original source / website / message boards?
A: Message boards are volatile - messages do not last on them very long. Once an article moves off the front page and into archives, the link to the original message generally stops working within 30-60 days. In order to not have to go back through and clean them up, I do not post links back. Message boards such as Recovery From Mormonism are concerned that if any copyright material is posted, linking back to them will put them in legal jeopardy.
Q: Are you here to expose Ex-Mormons?
A: No. Sometimes I am accused of this and it is completely untrue. Again, the purpose of this site is to blog the Ex-Mormon world and provide a repository for some of the very best of those articles published. This site was created by an Ex-Mormon for Ex-Mormons.
Q: Will you remove articles if an author requests it?
A: Yes. Absolutely.
Q: If an author submits corrections, will you correct your online article?
A: Yes. Absolutely. This happens all the time, sometimes on very old articles.
Q: If an article on the Mormon Curtain is incorrect (e.g. an article states that sexual activity goes on in the temple) - will you correct it or remove the article?
A: Yes. Absolutely. I try very hard to maintain strict truth when it comes to Mormonism. There is no sexual activity that goes on in Mormon Temples. There is no Satan worship that goes on in Mormon Temples although Satan has a large role in Mormon Temple Ceremonies and the Mormon Temples (particularly the Salt Lake Temple) is shrouded in Occult Symbols.
